We have some difficult news to share with you. Geoff Wright, from Wrights Vineyard & Winery, recently had a serious accident, breaking his leg in multiple places. He’s currently in the hospital awaiting surgery and may be unable to drive or operate machinery for the next few months. With vintage around the corner and our winery operations on hold, we’re offering our certified organic grapes for sale this season.
Ormond Valley Vineyard
Chardonnay
Mendoza, 2 cane.
Our gold medal vineyard. Approx. 5–7 tonnes from 2.5 hectares. Hard pruned for low yields, focusing on quality and ripeness. Certified organic (AsureQuality, eligible for the Canadian market). Vineyard is fully netted. This fruit goes into our Wrights Reserve Chardonnay (Gold medal and 5-star reviews). Typically a later harvest due to the valley’s conditions. Vines are ~20 years old, certified organic since 2009. Originally planted by Ross Revington.
Pinot Meunier & Pinot Noir
Mixed clones, 3 cane.
Approx. 8–10 tonnes total.
Manutuke Vineyard
Pinot Gris
15-year-old vines
Approx. 8 tonnes.
Pinot Noir
15-year-old vines
Approx. 6–7 tonnes. We’ve dropped some fruit, particularly around posts and touching clusters, though not perfect.
Young Pinot Noir
4 rows, 3 cane down
Typically ripens earlier. Clones unknown.
Older Chardonnay
Clone 15
40-year-old vines. 20 rows. Approx. 3–4 tonnes. Low yielding. Harvests at around 20 Brix.
Young Chardonnay
New clones
5 years old. First harvest this year, mix of clones (TBC). Approx. 3.5 tonnes.
